Gripsholms slott

Gripsholm Castle, a royal castle from 1537 in Mariefred. Gripsholm Castle is one of Sweden’s ten royal palaces and is regarded as one of Sweden´s finest historical monuments.

The castle was built by King Gustav Vasa in 1537 and later extended by Gustav III. The location earlier housed a fortress from the late 1300´s belonging to a wealthy family, but was confiscated by Gustav Vasa in 1526. The fortress was torned down and the Gripsholm Castle was built on the same spot.
