Iran’s 33rd FIFF Intl. section releases details on festival

According to the communication and information department of the 33rd Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF), 300 films were received by the festival secretariat for competing and screening at the international section.

The competitive section of 33rd FIFF will be held in two categories: Islamic and Asian Countries Cinema (East Panorama) and World Cinema (Salvation) and Art and Experience Award. The non-competition section consists of the screening of short films and documentaries, China contemporary cinema panorama, Turkey contemporary cinema panorama, special screening of the world cinema, Francesco Rosi: A Committed Critic, Iranians acclaimed filmmakers and Kiarostami’s workshops abroad.

The event will screen films from various countries including Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Britain, Ireland, USA, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, India, Japan, Canada, Norway, The Netherlands, Scotland and Greece.

Films that use an eloquent artistic vision to promote a blissful human life will be considered for the competition section. The festival prioritizes films with themes such as justice, peace, Islamic Awakening, anti-violence and religious and moral values.

Nima Abbaspour, member of selection board, noted this is the first year that the international section of the festival is held separately from the national section, adding “this section was neglected during the past years; it wasn’t trendy and was totally overshadowed by the national section. The separation will hopefully help the international section to become more noticeable.”

The 33rd FIFF will also host numerous master classes and workshops presented by well-known lecturers and cinema professionals including Dr. Pete Bryan Rive from New Zealand, director Jan Miller from Canada, and well-known director Christopher Zanussi.

The 33rd international FIFF will be held from April 24 to May 2 in Tehran.
